A path forward for the system already in your home

We've carried out home automation and lighting-control conversions from one brand to another, along with in-place upgrades of existing systems. The starting point is understanding what's installed, what still works and what you want to change. A conversion changes the control platform. An in-place upgrade updates an existing system while keeping compatible parts of its infrastructure. Both need a review of the actual equipment; keeping wiring or a wall location doesn't mean the old keypad, controller or module can stay.

Why owners consider a change

Recurring faults, equipment that's discontinued or no longer supported, an installer who's no longer available, a different app experience, or plans to add lighting, shades, entertainment or compatible security. These call for assessment. A discontinued product doesn't automatically mean every function stops, and losing the original installer doesn't automatically mean replacing the system. Manufacturer support, available access and the condition of the installation decide the options.

What a conversion or upgrade involves

  • Assess the installation: controllers, lighting modules, keypads, connected equipment, wiring, network connections and available programming, plus the functions that matter to you.
  • Establish what can stay: wiring, enclosures and keypad locations may be reusable where condition and the new system's requirements allow; a replacement device may need different connections or a different wall opening.
  • Define the equipment changes: controllers, modules, interfaces, power supplies or keypads, checked for how retained and new equipment work together.
  • Program the intended behavior: levels, scenes, schedules, keypad functions and supported integrations.
  • Plan the cutover: staged where the system allows; shared controllers and integrations can decide which functions change together, and access, temporary arrangements and expected interruptions are agreed before work starts.
  • Test and document: commissioning checks the agreed functions together, and handover records identify equipment, configuration, controls and support, with access information handled securely.

How we approach the work

We start with your priorities and the existing installation, and connect the lighting or automation work with the network, wiring and equipment it depends on. We review what can remain, what needs to change and where a staged approach is practical, coordinate with the builder, electrician and designer, and program the agreed controls and scenes. Testing and a walkthrough of everyday functions are part of finishing the work. The goal is a defined scope that fits the property and a clear understanding of the proposed changes.
